The Museum of the City of New York exhibit Gilded New York is the inaugural presentation with the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Gallery. This exhibition explores the culture of the city’s elite class at the end of the 19th century where they flaunted their money as never before. During this time there was great wealth created by such titans as Cornelius Vanderbilt and Jay Gould among others who lived extravagantly. This display of wealth by the rich new American aristocracy during this time helped to propel New York City to global prominence.
