Actually Park Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic for anyone participating in New York City Summer Streets. For three consecutive Saturdays every August New York City closes Park Avenue from E72 Street (also connects to Central Park) to Lafayette Street and Chambers Street/Brooklyn Bridge – approximately 7 miles. You can bike, skate, walk or run without worrying about traffic….only a few cross streets are open for vehicles traveling east and west. There are 5 rest stops along the way with activities, food, community info and free stuff!
Some of the offerings are: free bike rental, zip line for free, arts and crafts, musical performances, exercise classes, free bike helmets with fitting, food tastings, free water stations and much more. Summer Streets is a summer tradition for the past few years that hopefully will continue on for many years to come.
