Thomas Heatherwick’s creation The Vessel, has finally come to fruition at Hudson Yards New York. The US$150 million+ interactive sculpture invite visitors to meander through the intersecting staircases giving them views of the ever changing New York skyline.
The honeycombed structure made up of 154 flights of stairs is over 150 feet tall and made from 87 pre-fabricated carbon steel pieces from Italy. It may seem daunting to climb the 16 stories but it gets easier the higher you go as the stairs become more shallow. Also by stopping and appreciating the view inside and outside of the structure, you hardly notice the work it took to get to the top. Visitors may enter the structure for free via time entry tickets available online with a cap of 700 at a time.
