Founded in 1865 in Paris, Printemps became a symbol of innovation and elegance in French retail. It was among the first department stores to embrace modern architecture, seasonal window displays, and a focus on bringing the latest in fashion and lifestyle to a wide audience. Its flagship location on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement, remains a landmark, celebrated for its stunning Art Nouveau domes and its role in shaping the luxury shopping experience. I remember years ago always stopping by the store whenever I visited Paris for a full throttled taste of French Style. Now with a location in the US Paris seems a little closer than before.

Spanning multiple floors in a sleekly redesigned space, Printemps NYC combines high-end fashion, beauty, and lifestyle offerings under one roof. The store’s interior reflects a modern interpretation of its Parisian heritage, blending marble, soft lighting, and curated art installations to create a refined shopping experience. One of the artists currently on display is Los Angeles–based Elena Stonaker. She transformed the façade into a playful garden of giant dolls crafted from upcycled fabrics, tapestries and sculptures made from repurposed materials.

Also on display are Sakura glass vessels from Amsterdam-based artist and designer Maarten Vrolijk, represented by Todd Merrill Studio. The vessels play with shapes, colors and materials that Vroliik believes should make people’s everyday lives more beautiful. They are dotted throughout displays of exquisitely designed shoes and handbag collections. This creates a cohesive assortment of fine art and exclusive products from luxury labels alongside emerging designers, offering a mix of style and fresh creativity.

By opening in New York, Printemps joins a competitive luxury retail market, but the brand’s reputation for craftsmanship, exclusive offerings, and Parisian flair promises to make it a standout destination. With its unique blend of tradition and modernity, the new Printemps store is poised to become a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking a sophisticated retail experience.
