Argosy Book Store in New York, founded in 1925, is part of a increasingly diminishing group – independently owned family bookstores. This is especially true in New York City were rents can be astronomical. Argosy has been able to swim against the tide by owning the 6 story building where it’s located and offering a variety of items at various prices along with knowledgeable and friendly staff. They specialize in Americana, modern first editions, autographs, art, antique maps & prints, and the history of science & medicine among others. Going through the many bookshelves and stacks of images one an easily get lost discovering wonderful items to add to your collection. The tactile experience of turning the pages, handling a tome or inspecting a manuscript is what’s missing from the digital world. Technology is a great addition to our lives but let’s not forget what came before.
