The 35th Philippine Independence Day Parade, the largest celebration of its kind outside the Philippines, featured an Intricate mix of revelers in mostly ornate fashions beaming with pride down Madison Avenue on Sunday. The garments worn showcased not only the rich heritage of Filipino culture, but also the craftsmanship required to execute the many different looks in bold colors. The parade was made possible by the Philippine Consulate General in New York, in partnership with the Philippine Independence Day Council Incorporated (PIDCI). There were around 135 floats, organizations, and marching bands, from the US and abroad all celebrating the contributions of Filipinos to American society.

Philippines Independence Day celebrated Emilio Aguinaldo’s declaration of independence from Spain, on June 12, 1898. Due to the experience of Spanish colonization, Filipinos share many cultural similarities with other Latin countries.
